The Brewood Ringers are mainly members of the 'Bache, Shearwood and McShane' ringing group--but that's a bit of a mouthful, so Brewood Ringers is easier--and we also regularly welcome friends to join us either long or short term. The regular players for the team are:- Peter Bache (A and trainer), Colin McShane (A and trainer), Peter Gruar (C), Derek Gruar(A and trainer), Dave Clifton (A and trainer), Roger Clay (A), Glynn Middleton(C), Dan Potter (C) Paul ten Hoeve (C), Jim Stewart (C) Simon Davies (C), Scott Petrek (C) and several trainees Howard Morgan, Jane Potter, 'The Three Bens', Lauren, Tom Young and not forgetting regular helper Moira Gough. Co-founder Phil Shearwood now lives in Preston, but occasional appearances by Lee Wells, Stu Brown, Anne Woolley and Mikhail 'Misha' Markovets are really valued.
Obviously we are all licensed with the British Trust of Ornithology under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 to catch and ring wild birds.
Ringing in the UK
Of course most of our ringing is done in the UK--lots in members' gardens as usual--and we also have some regular sites: The Chillington estate all year, The West Midland Bird Club's reserve at Belvide*, mainly late summer, the Sandon estate for winter roosts; some members such as Derek G. work with birds professionally all round Britain, and we regularly have ringing trips to other parts of the country--Lundy Island and Eilean nan Ron for example.
Ringing Trips Abroad
Increasingly over recent years, members of the group have gone on various ringing trips abroad including Portugal, Canada, Gibraltar, Russia, Poland, Norway, Kazakhstan and Kamchatka.
We hope you enjoy reading about some of our exploits, and find them interesting.
We try to keep the blog as up to date as possible-so why not have a look to see what's been happening.
