EILEAN NAN RON
Just a reminder to anyone visiting Eilean nan Ron this summer for the Storm Petrels that you should have written permission from the Sutherland Estates in Golspie to actually stay on the island. The Northern Constabulary have only been out to the island once to check in the last 18 years but they will curtail any activities if permission has not been granted.
RINGING TRIPS
Another successful trip to Portugal!!
A merry group of 5 ringers and 4 non-ringers spent the week 14-21st October in Vilamoura, Portugal on the second annual trip to the site. A full report will be posted in the 'Reports' section of this website--but for now we would like to let folk know that we again did very well. We catch and ring about 10% of the ringed birds in Portugal for a year!! This year we were able to look at year on year comparisons, based on over 1300 birds we caught this year. Most numerous were Chiffchaff and Blackcaps--one of the latter bearing a British ring. Who knows if some of the birds we handled had been bred on or near our ringing sites in the midlands!?
Look at the report in the 'report' section of this site. we hope to have some photos soon.
