Notwithstanding the shorter session with fewer nets, not a bad morning. Plenty of juv warblers about. We caught 54 birds of which 41 were new. 5 Chiffchaffs was a bit disappointing, as was the newly 'in' Willow warbler that was singing all round the net sites but avoided capture. All 3 Garden warblers were juvs,as were all 5 Whitethroat. Of the 5 Blackcaps 1 was a male hatched last year, still with brown flecks in the crown and an unmoulted outermost greater covert. Most encouraging of all were the 10 Sedge warblers of which 4 were new adults--there must be quite a number of pairs this year, so we look forward to catching lots of superb juveniles.
