Weather conditions were much better today with virtually no wind, and reasonable temperatures--getting quite warm by the time we packed in at 10am. A total of 52 new birds ringed including 15 Reed warblers, 4 Sedge warbs, 6 Willow warbs and 6 Blackcaps. There was the first sign of a roving tit flock made up mainly of young Long-tailed tits--but we a still puzzled by the lack of Chiifchaff compared to last year. One of the Reed warbler adults we caught looks like it may have been ringed elsewhere in previous years so we will post details about this as and when we get them. It looks like a fairly settled period of weather--so we hope that birds will start to gradually move around and migrants drop into the site to feed up.
