House Martins!!
We had a good session again this morning ( Wednesday 2nd Sept), with 62 new birds ringed, including our first Moorhen for Belvide. Most significant were the 15 new Chiffchaffs showing a concerted movement of this species through the reserve. Cool Autumnal mornings typically result in large numbers of hirundines feeding low over the water and trees. Juvenile House and Sand martins are particularly easy to attract to a tape lure--we only had that for House martin--and this resulted in 29 juveniles being ringed. 6 new Blackcaps also shows that these continue to move through.
