Sometimes a modest catch is just right--and so it proved this afternoon. We caught 38 new birds and a dozen or so retraps, which meant that we could spend valuable time with our trainees pointing out many more learning points to then than is often possible when we have a big catch. In addition to that we did catch another 2 Lesser Whitethroat, which are really pleasing to catch at any time. There are still quite a few Chiffchaff about but Willow warblers have now mostly moved on-with only one bird caught which we originally ringed 5 days ago.

12 Blue tits were ringed--mainly young birds and mainly at the feeding station--but again this is showing jusy how many birds which have bred outside the reserve appear to move in over the course of the year. we will be analysing just how many are involved in our annual report, when all the figures are available.
