Keeping the gene pool healthy.
Just had a phone calll this afternoon from a ringing contact in Shropshire with a ring number for us to check. V 228210 was put onto a juvenile Reed warbler at Belvide on 1st August 2006--no doubt a bird raised in the reedbed there. It was re-trapped at Alscott as a breeding male on 9th July 2009. A classic case of juveniles spreading out from their natal area in order to ensure they don't interbreed too much
