Quiet week
the weather has not been too good--plus the possible sessions we had planned for Sunday morning were cancelled based on the forecast of heavy rain and strong winds--neither of which materialised.
Wednesday's session at our main feeder was unusually quiet with only 15 new birds caught--not really sure why that was. A session at a new feeder on Friday afternoon in gale force winds realised 37 new birds in 2 hours of which 14 Redpoll and 2 Great Spots were the highlights. 2 retrapped Redpoll were interesting in that they had been ringed in the last couple of weeks at our other 2 feeders in the large woodland area we use, showing at least some interaction and mixing between feeding flocks of finches.
Finally today one of our trainees had a short but very productive session at a new site in his mum's garden. 34 birds in an hour was very good--with 4 Tree Sparrows being the cream.
