We have just completed the first round of nest box ringing --at belvide. The next lot will be done over the next week or so at the RSPB Lake Vrnwy site.

Belvide nest boxes were almost exactly the same as 2009. This year we had 42% of the boxes occupied--with 40% last year. There were 66 Great tit chicks ringed this year compared to 69 last year. Blue tits reversed the trend with 167 ringed this year compared to 155 last year. A full analysis of brood sizes etc will appear in the Belvide annual report at the end of the year. It remains to be seen if the intriguing behaviou of fledged chicks continues this year--i.e. very few remained at the reservoir after fledging. Most of the birds of the year we caught during the rest of the year were birds which had moved in from elsewhere. We guess it makes sense genetically but we had not expected it to be so obvious.
